How South Australia Destination Management Co. supported a career-changing journey through the Far North and Eyre Peninsula
In May 2025, more than 20 internationally trained engineers set off on a multi-day journey across South Australia’s Far North and Eyre Peninsula — but this was no ordinary tour. It was a professionally focused, outcomes-driven experience forming part of Engineer Your Future, a career support program for skilled migrant engineers currently living in Adelaide but not yet working in their qualified fields.
South Australia Destination Management Co. was proud to support the delivery of this high-impact initiative by providing tour design, coordination, and on-ground event logistics across five regional centres: Ardrossan, Port Augusta, Whyalla, Tumby Bay, and Port Lincoln.
Organised by Skillsmart Careers and funded by the Department of State Development, the “Engineer Your Future” program is a 10-week initiative that includes job-readiness workshops, mentoring, and — crucially — regional industry engagement. The tour component played a central role in connecting participants with real career pathways, offering site visits, employer panels, and direct interaction with regional councils and businesses.

As the logistics and destination partner, SAdmc ensured that the experience was seamless, professional, and place-led — incorporating visits to key infrastructure and development sites such as:
Rex Minerals
Cape Hardy Green Hydrogen Project
Hallett Group’s Green Cement Plant
SA Water’s Billy Lights Desalination Project
We also coordinated support for employer engagement events hosted by:
Port Augusta City Council
District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula
City of Port Lincoln
Regional Development Australia Far North
Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula
This tour not only showcased job opportunities but highlighted the liveability, community spirit, and long-term potential of a regional engineering career. The cohort included engineers qualified in civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, geomatics, and more — many of whom are already seeing results, with several securing employment during the program.
We're proud to play a small role in a much larger story — one that supports workforce development, regional growth, and the future of South Australia’s engineering sector.
