There is something special about experiencing Adelaide through the lens of a visitor – and that’s exactly what happened a couple of weeks ago when I hosted partners of business event delegates on a bespoke “Flavours & Footsteps: Adelaide Market Discovery” tour, created by South Australia Destination Management Co. in collaboration with Hayley Le Gros from WALDRONSMITH Management.
We started with a personal welcome at the Adelaide Convention Centre before jumping on the tram to Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga and strolling through the CBD to the Adelaide Central Market Authority, where we met our Market host from Flamboyance Tours. The tour unfolded amongst the colour, characters and stories of this 150‑year‑old culinary icon. Guests sampled local flavours, met passionate stallholders and heard how layers of culture and innovation have helped shape Adelaide’s reputation as a food lover’s city.
From the market, we headed to the National Wine Centre of Australia, taking the long way via Rundle Mall for a chocolate stop at Haigh's Chocolates and a visit to the R.M.Williams flagship store, so our international guest could eye off a pair of classic boots to take home. The morning wrapped up with a relaxed lunch, of course, some South Australian wine at the National Wine Centre, before boarding the tram back to the Adelaide Convention Centre to complete the loop. I just found my new favourite bubbles from Muster Grace Under Pressure Blanc De Blanc, which is going to be my go-to for Christmas lunch. Every job has its perks! 🍾
